Quality Rigging Work with Attention to Detail

I have been fortunate to learn line handling and marling spike seamanship from some of the best in the industry. These experiences have given me an appreciation for proper splicing techniques and the importance of matching the right splice to the right type of line.

Understanding Line Construction Matters

For example, not all double braid lines are created equal. The type of splice required depends entirely on the line’s construction:

  • Standard Double Braid (polyester cover with nylon core) uses traditional double braid splicing techniques where strength is distributed between the core and cover.

  • High Modulus and Hybrid Cores (Dyneema, Spectra, Vectran cores) require Class II or core-to-core splices because virtually all the line’s strength is in the core. Using the wrong splice technique on these lines can result in dangerous failure.

I pay careful attention to identifying your line type and using the appropriate splicing method for maximum strength and safety.

Services Offered

While rigging work isn’t my full-time focus, I enjoy the craft and am happy to help clients and marina neighbors with their splicing needs. I am insured for this professional work.

Note: Splicing work is performed on NEW line whenever possible. Old, degraded line can be very difficult to splice properly and may not hold reliably.
